This week and next, our Adult Forum will be on the topic of Spiritual Gifts. Meet at 9:30 outside the nursery door.
Annual Report Summaries Due
If you coordinated or headed a ministry during 2011 and have not submitted your report for the annual meeting booklet, please do so as soon as possible to be included. Easiest is an email to the parish office.
Women’s Group – Thursday, January 26 at 5:30 p.m.
Want to know the low down on the upcoming events at the church? Drop in at the Women of St John’s dinner. We meet every other month, usually the third Thursday of the month hosted by 2-3 volunteers and enjoyed by all. Our dinners consist of a dash of flavor, a pound of fun. Sign ups are at the back of the church. It’s great to just get together and relax with friends.
Annual Parish Meeting
Save the date: Sunday, January 29 will be our annual parish meeting. We will gather after the 10:45 service to enjoy a potluck/finger foods, hear a report on the budget and ministries of the church during the past year, and enjoy fun, fellowship, and awards for outstanding ministry in 2011. Please join us; the meeting should take about an hour. Sign-ups for food will be on the Ministry Table.
Candlemas Children’s Service
We will offer a special blessing for the children in our lives at both liturgies on February 5, when we celebrate Candlemas (the Presentation of Christ in the Temple). The 8:00 service will be a more traditional “high” celebration. The 10:45 service will be along the lines of our annual Bishop Nicholas celebration. The more children present, the better! The children will help lead our worship, and all are invited to enjoy tasty treats and crafts after the service.
Fr. Harold Going to Haiti
Bp. Talton has formed a Haiti Task Force to help focus the friendship between our diocese and the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. To sharpen our focus, the Rev. Connor Lynn, of St. Anne’s Stockton, has invived our rector to accompany him to Haiti in early February. The trip’s purpose is to meet with the sisters of St. Margaret, who work with the poor there and run Foryer Notre Dame for the indigent elderly (we have raised $905 already in our commitment to support one person for one year in residence there, which costs a total of $2,400). Fr. Connor and Father Harold will be in Haiti from February 5-10 and undoubtedly will learn many things that will enable us to deepen our ties with our fellow Episcopalians there. As Fr. Connor likes to say”Always remember—we go to receive, much more than to give.”
