This week and next, our Adult Forum will be on the topic Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts. Meet at 9:30 outside the nursery door. Spiritual Gift Inventories are available on the ministry table.
Annual Parish Meeting
Following the 10:45 service today, enjoy a potluck/finger-food lunch, vote for vestry and convention delegates, hear a report on the budget and ministries of the church during the past year, and enjoy fun, fellowship, and awards for outstanding ministry in 2011. Please gather at the back of the church.
Candlemas Children’s Service
We will offer a special blessing for the children in our lives at both liturgies on February 5, when we celebrate Candlemas (the Presentation of Christ in the Temple). The 8:00 service will be a more traditional “high” celebration. The 10:45 service will be along the lines of our annual Bishop Nicholas celebration. The more children present, the better! The children will help lead our worship, and all are invited to enjoy tasty treats and crafts after the service.
Fr. Harold Going to Haiti
Bp. Talton has formed a Haiti Task Force to help focus the friendship between our diocese and the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. To sharpen our focus, the Rev. Connor Lynn, of St. Anne’s Stockton, has invited our rector to accompany him to Haiti in early February. The trip’s purpose is to meet with the sisters of St. Margaret, who work with the poor there and run Foyer Notre Dame for the indigent elderly (we have raised $905 already in our commitment to support one person for one year in residence there, which costs a total of $2,400). Fr. Connor and Father Harold will be in Haiti from February 5-10 and undoubtedly will learn many things that will enable us to deepen our ties with our fellow Episcopalians there. As Fr. Connor likes to say “Always remember—we go to receive, much more than to give.”
