Lenten Devotional Guides
It’s not too late! You are invited to pick up a copy this year’s Lenten Meditations booklet prior to the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday, February 22. The booklet contains devotional material for every day in Lent.
New this year: Lenten Devotional Guide Meditations online!
You can also sign up to receive the daily meditations by email by going to http://www.er-d.org/Lent/. This guide is intended to help us reflect on Jesus’ life of healing and sacrifice and prepare our hearts and minds for the joy of Easter and the call of God to serve the world for the sake of Christ.
Wednesday Evening Suppers in Lent
Wednesday Soup Suppers are scheduled for February 29 and every Wednesday in March. They will begin at 5:30 pm with supper for all. Discussion will begin at 6:00 p.m.; the evening will end with Compline at 7:00 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Our study this Lent will be based on Brian McLaren’s book A New Kind of Christianity. You are invited to purchase the book and read along (it is readily available at Barnes and Noble and online), but you don’t need the book to join the study!
Parish Capital Campaign Discernment Conversation
The time has come for St. John’s to look again at the possibility of a capital campaign. Such a campaign would let us restructure our building debt and make our payments easier to manage. The first step is deciding whether to have a campaign. We will begin the decision-making process with a meeting led by our representative from the Episcopal Church Foundation, Sue Fornabai, to discern whether there is sufficient interest, excitement, and engagement on the part of the congregation to go forward with a campaign.
To kick off the discernment process, we will have an all-parish meeting on March 4 after the 10:45 liturgy (around 12:00). A light lunch will be served. The meeting will take no more than an hour and a half, during which Sue Fornabai will facilitate our conversation. She tells us this session has been fun and enjoyable for the congregations she has worked with in the past.
Please plan to attend the March 4 meeting at noon. Your input is important!
Join the men of St. John’s on Sunday, March 4, at 5 p.m. as they experience great fellowship and food. Sign up is on the ministry table.
Holy Eucharist and High Tea Honoring Juanita Weber
Juanita Weber is retiring as administrator of the diocese. You are invited to a Eucharist and High Tea to honor her service: Sunday, March 18, at 3 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of St. Anne in Stockton (1020 W. Lincoln Rd.). RSVP to Ellen Meyer, 209-576-0104 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our Easter liturgies are adorned with memorial flowers and special Easter music. If you remembered loved ones and blessings last year at this time and would like to repeat your memorial message, please initial the list on the ministry table and put your donation of $25 or more in the plate during offering. If you have not participated in this ministry before and would like your memorial included, you will find a form on the ministry table. Please fill it out and drop it in the plate or the office. We are all richly blessed by special music, banners, bells, brass and more. Deadline to turn in your form is April 1. Your adornment will appear in the Easter bulletin.
Next Baptismal Dates
The next date scheduled for baptisms for adults and children age 6 and older is the Easter Vigil, at 7:30 p.m. on March 7. For children age 5 and younger, the next baptismal date will be March 15, at the 10:45 service. If you are interested in being baptized, please call the church office.
