Upcoming for the Week of March 25

Vacation Bible School Planning

All who would like to help with VBS this summer are asked to attend a planning meeting Sunday, March 25 after the 10:45 am service (about noon) in the Hospitality Room. A light lunch and child care will be provided. If you would like to help plan or run VBS, June 25 -29, please sign up on the Ministry table today!

Adult Forum

Today we discuss our experience with Sabbath as part of the four-week series “Developing a Sabbath sensibility in a post modern world.” This class acknowledges that we are over-programmed, overstressed, and over-wrought. We need to come back to ourselves. Sabbath observance invites us to stop. It invites us to rest. It asks us to notice that while we rest the world continues without our help. Like many of God’s commandments, it feels like a burden but actually brings great freedom. Come join us at 9:30 a.m. outside the nursery door.

Scripture Leaflets

For those who would like a copy of the scriptures that are read during services on Sunday, lectionary leaflets are now available on the Ministry Table.

Wednesday Evening Suppers in Lent

Wednesday Soup Suppers conclude on Wednesday, March 28. The supper will begin at 5:30 pm with supper for all. Discussion will begin at 6:00 p.m.; the evening will end with Compline at 7:00 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Our study is based on Brian McLaren’s book A New Kind of Christianity.

Easter Adornments

Our Easter liturgies are adorned with memorial flowers and special Easter music. If you remembered loved ones and blessings last year at this time and would like to repeat your memorial message, please initial the list on the ministry table and put your donation of $25 or more in the plate during offering. If you have not participated in this ministry before and would like your memorial included, you will find a form on the ministry table. Please fill it out and drop it in the plate or the office. We are all richly blessed by special music, banners, bells, brass and more. Deadline to turn in your form is April 1. Your adornment will appear in the Easter bulletin.

Palm Fronds for Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is April 1. If you have palms in your yard and could spare a few fronds, big or small, please bring them by Friday, March 30, and place them outside the north entrance.

Next Baptismal Dates

The next date scheduled for baptisms for adults and children age 6 and older is the Easter Vigil, at 7:30 p.m. on April 7. For children age 5 and younger, the next baptismal date will be April 15, at the 10:45 service. If you are interested in being baptized, please call the church office.

Communications Workshops Offered

Media and the Gospel Message-Communicating Jesus in the Twenty-First Century

A series of workshops sponsored by the Diocese of San Joaquin and Canticle Communications will take place at Holy Family in Fresno on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31. The workshops will focus on using electronic media to help grow your congregation and communicate within your congregation. These skills are a must for churches in the 21st century.

You may attend one, two or all three workshops:

  • Evangelism by Media – Friday afternoon; March 30, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Website Discovery – Saturday morning; March 31, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Social Media; Facebook and Twitter – Saturday afternoon; March 31, 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Registration forms are on the Ministry Table and the diocesan website (diosanjoaquin.org).

Easter Donations

If you would like to donate candy or plastic eggs for our children’s Easter Egg Hunt, please bring donations to the office before April 3. Thank you!

Vestry Nominees

We have had two resignations from the Vestry this spring, and so the Vestry is seeking nominations. Please contact the rector, any member of the Vestry, or the church office.

Replacement  Blood Drive, Saturday – April 14th

On Saturday, 4/14 St. John’s will open it’s doors once again to Lodi and neighboring communities for our Spring “Replacement Blood Drive”, for Sophia Rose Conde and her newborn baby brother, Anthony Zavier.  Both have Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKD) and require blood transfusions for their entire life.  Donors – the appointment sign-up sheet is on the ministry table.  Volunteers also needed for “greeters” and “canteen hosts” that day (no experience needed!) and to put up posters around town at work and at your favorite merchants & restaurants.  Thank you for your part in making this a success for these two young children.  Blessings.

Used Eyeglasses for Haiti

A message from Fr. Connor Lynn: Serena Beeks has agreed to carry used eyeglasses to Haiti when she travels in May for the consecration. In less than two months let’s flood our diocesan office with used eyeglasses for the children at St Vincent’s School for handicapped children and, indirectly, Foyer Notre Dame. The gift of improved sight is a gift beyond measure—a great way to push our Lenten observance over the top.
