Thank You to Pentecost Readers

Thank you to Beverley Clinehens, Rose Deak, Celisse Johnson, Jean-Claude Laterreur, Bunmi Olowoyeye, and George Ross for sharing your gifts with us by reading in other languages as part of our Pentecost celebration.

Sierra Service Project Fundraiser (6/3)

Bake sale next week! Next week’s fundraiser will be a bake sale. If you would like to contribute baked goods to the sale, please bring them with you to church next Sunday. Then purchase your treats after both services to support SSP June 3!

Soul Kitchen – Friday, June 29

Beginning on June 29 and continuing on the last Friday of each month, a dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church. All are welcome! There is no charge for dinner, though donations are accepted. The Jon Bon Jovi Foundation instituted a program called Soul Kitchen to help feed homeless and low-income families; the Soul Kitchen at St. John’s has similar goals for the Lodi community. If you would like to help, please contact Kathy Girard or Paula Saubolle.

Facilities Maintenance Assistance Needed

Rich Shook, after years of service to St John’s is retiring from taking care of the sprinklers and the trailer. He has been an immense help and we now need somebody to take over this ministry. Volunteers can see Jr. Warden Kevin Canwell or leave a note in my folder in the office, or see Rev. Anne.

Also, we need someone with carpentry skills to do some small jobs around the facility. The first one is trimming the trim on the large, double front doors to accept “door sweeps” that extend all the way across the bottom of the door over to the other door sweep to keep out mice and other unwanted pests. Again, please see Kevin Canwell to offer your assistance.

A Special 10th Anniversary Celebration

Ten years have passed since we relocated and erected our new sanctuary on Lower Sacramento Road. Amidst our ever-pressing financial needs, it is good to stop and assess how far we have come. After 10 years of faithful giving, campaigns and fundraisers, we have paid off half of our mortgage. It is a wonderful milestone and we should celebrate our accomplishment. To mark this special occasion, your Vestry is planning a celebration potluck barbecue, after the 10:45 service on Sunday, June 24. The theme is “Nifty at Fifty” to highlight the fifty percent or the payment of half of the mortgage. We will provide the barbecued hotdogs and hamburgers. For this event to work, we need the participation of the congregation. By splitting the congregation in half, we are requesting that last names from A – L, bring the salads, and last names M – Z bring the desserts. We hope you will join us for a well-deserved celebration.

Donations and Loaned Items for Vacation Bible School

For crafts, decorations, and activities at VBS this summer, we are hoping to receive donations of supplies. We will put up a giving tree soon listing items we can use. We would especially appreciate the loan of one or two EZ UP-type shelters to create a bazaar-type setting for activities; rugs and throw pillows; and baskets. If you can lend us any of these items, please plan to bring them to the office in June with your name clearly marked or attached.

Readings for May 27

For those who would like to preview the lectionary for Sunday, May 27 (Pentecost), the scriptures are: Acts 2:1-21; Romans 8:22-27; Psalm 104:25-35, 37, and John 20:19-23.
