CCR Update

Collect, Crush, Recycle: The children of St. John’s are raising money for the parish. Bring your aluminum cans and plastic bottles (with CRV only!) to help St. John’s kids help St. John’s. The kids will crush them and our families will take them to be recycled. The children will place the money in the offering. Our total is $1,478 as of last week!

This Friday! Soul Kitchen Community Dinner

Come out to dinner, St. John’s! Save the date of Friday, August 31 on your calendar for the next Soul Kitchen dinner. All are welcome, and parishioners are encouraged to attend! There is no charge for dinner, though donations are accepted. The Jon Bon Jovi Foundation instituted a program called Soul Kitchen to help feed homeless and low-income families; the Soul Kitchen at St. John’s has similar goals for the Lodi community. To volunteer, please contact Paula Saubolle.

We need your help! Pass out flyers: pick up flyers to pass out on the Thursday and Friday before the dinner, at the dollar store, by Kmart, at the Farmer’s Market, Lowell Center, etc. Service and clean-up: set-up begins Friday at 4 p.m., and clean-up begins in earnest at 7 p.m. Thank you!

Handbells

St. John’s Ringers will meet tonight. We are hoping to add some new ringers. If you are interested, please join us. We normally rehearse on Sunday nights from 7-8 p.m., but would be open to other suggestions from new people.

Third Annual Harvest Faire

Things are coming together for the third annual St. John’s Harvest Faire September 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors new and returning will offer fresh produce and other fruits of the harvest, and there will be a chainsaw artist—should be interesting!—and an alpaca farmer, who does everything from raising the animals to spinning the yarn. Hopefully she’ll bring her spinning wheel to demonstrate her craft.

If you would like to be a part of this year’s fair, you are welcome! Vendors, greeters, folks to staff a church information table to answer questions and tell about St. John’s, traffic directors, and folks to help set up and clean up are all wanted. Contact Tina Newsome through the parish office for more information.

Northern Deanery Pre-Convention Meeting (10/6)

All delegates and alternates to Convention should plan to attend the Northern Deanery meeting on October 6 at 2 p.m. at St. Anne’s in Stockton. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting, which will address some convention business and some deanery business and activity.

Diocesan Convention, October 26-27

Sign up now for Diocesan Convention at St. Paul’s, Modesto, Friday evening October 26 and Saturday, October 27. Sister Marie Margaret of Foyer Notre Dame in Haiti will be present to preach and teach, and other opportunities for learning and serving will be available. Once again this year we hope to have an outstanding youth presence, which was a wonderful feature of last year’s convention and a lot of fun for the kids who attended. Forms are on the ministry table and are also available on the diocesan website, diosanjoaquin.org.
