Readings for 9/30

For those who would like to preview the lectionary for Sunday, September 30, the scriptures are: Esther 7:1-6, 9-10, and 9:20-22; James 5:13-20; Psalm 124; and Mark 9:38-50.

Soul Kitchen Community Dinner (9/28)

Our next dinner will be served on September 28. We continue to encourage all members to join us for the meal as well as helping with spreading the word and putting on the event. There is no charge for dinner, though donations are accepted. The Jon Bon Jovi Foundation instituted a program called Soul Kitchen to help feed homeless and low-income families; the Soul Kitchen at St. John’s has similar goals for the Lodi community. To volunteer, please contact Paula Saubolle.

Third Annual Harvest Faire

Things are coming together for the third annual St. John’s Harvest Faire September 29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors new and returning will offer fresh produce and other fruits of the harvest, and there will be a chainsaw artist—should be interesting!—and an alpaca farmer, who does everything from raising the animals to spinning the yarn. Hopefully she’ll bring her spinning wheel to demonstrate her craft. If you would like to be a part of this year’s fair, you are welcome! Vendors, greeters, folks to staff a church information table to answer questions and tell about St. John’s, traffic directors, and folks to help set up and clean up are all wanted. Cantact Tina Newsome.

Sunday School Pool Party and Meet-and-Greet NEXT SUNDAY!

Kids: it’s time to celebrate earning over $1,000 for the church with the CCR recycling program! Parents and Sunday school and chapel leaders, come get acquainted!

Parents, teachers/leaders, and children are invited to a pool party at the Loiacono’s home after church (roughly 12:30) on September 30. Bring a suit and towel and come for lunch and fellowship. RSVP to Becky Loiacono.

New Office Administrator

We are pleased to announce that Penny Wilson has accepted the position of Parish Administrator to take Rev. Anne’s place in the office. Her first official day will be October 1. Penny will handle the parish calendar and scheduling, keys, mail, service sheets, everything related to the functioning of the office. If you’re not sure who to ask for things, please try Penny—if she doesn’t know, she will find out!

Blessing of the Animals October 7

On October 7 we will bless animals between 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. in commemoration of the Feast of St. Francis (which is October 4). Bring your pets to be blessed. All animals are welcome! (Even stuffed or photographed.)

Facilities Maintenance Assistance Needed

We are seeking the assistance of a knowledgeable person to help maintain the sprinkler system around the church. Also, we need someone with carpentry skills to do some small jobs around the facility. Volunteers can see Jr. Warden Kevin Canwell or leave a note in his folder in the office.

Pastor’s Office Hours

Pastor Jim’s days in the office this week are Monday and Tuesday. He will then be out of the office until his return from a long-awaited vacation, Sunday, October 7. You can Reach Pastor Jim at the church office, by cell phone at 510-234-7774, or by email at jimstickney@mac.com.
