Guest Preacher

Sr. Marie Therese

Sunday morning we welcome Sister Marie Margaret as our Preacher.  She was also the Preacher at The Diocesan Convention.  Please stay at our coffee hour to greet her.

Foyer Notre Dame in Haiti

For 2012 our vestry set a goal for St. John’s to raise $2,400 to sponsor one lady at Foyer Notre Dame for an entire year.  By March we had surpassed our original goal of $2,400 and had already sent 2 checks totaling $2,723.05.  Contributions continued to be generous for the rest of the year.  To-date, October 2012, we have actually raised enough money to sponsor 2 ladies for an entire year.  We were proud to present another check at Convention for $2,158.95 for a total contribution of $4,882; full sponsorship for 2 ladies.

Daylight Savings Time Ends

Next week we all change our clocks.  Starting Sunday, November 4, we leave daylight savings time, clocks fall back and we gain an hour of sleep.  So please notice that next Sunday.  But, there will also be some changes in furniture arrangement here at St. Johns.  Come and see if your notice what has moved!

Men’s BBQ

Please note that the Men’s BBQ is scheduled for Sunday, November 4 at 5:30 p.m.   If you are interested in attending, please sign up at the ministry table.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Stockton Chorale to Perform at St. John’s

Sunday, November 4, at 3 p.m., the Stockton Chorale will present their concert, “Saints, Queens and Mothers,” at St. Johns. The Youth Chorale and Master Chorale will be featured with music by Hayden, Purcell, Alice Parker and others.  Tickets are available from the Stockton Chorale website or from Chorale members or at the door ($20 in advance, $25 at the door/$5 Students).

Soul Kitchen Dinner Friday, November 30

Our next Soul Kitchen dinner will be November 30.  We can use help every month with advertising, set-up and clean-up, food preparation, and serving.  Sign up at the back.  Questions? See Beth Elwood or Paula Saubolle.

Survey Coming!

Watch for a special survey coming your way around the end of November!  This will be your chance to help us determine whether St. John’s should undertake a capital campaign to pay down our mortgage on the church, and what a realistic target for such a campaign would be.

The surveys are being conducted for us by the Episcopal Church Foundation, which assures that all responses will be fully confidential.  ECF will provide a summary, analysis and recommendations back to St. John’s vestry.

All Saints’ Sunday and the Commemoration of All Souls

This year we will celebrate All Saints’ Day at our Sunday morning liturgies on November 4.  The children of St. John’s have embellished our All Souls’ Memorial Banner with the names of the departed, and during the prayers we will also chant the names of those who have died.  If you would like to include a family member, friend, mentor, or other loved one, please list that person’s name on the sheet on the Ministry Table.
