St. John’s held our annual meeting on Sunday, Jan. 27, following a joint service. We reviewed the parish budget, elected new members of the vestry and delegates to the diocesan convention, recognized the outgoing members of the vestry and those who completed LEM and LEV training, and heard from Pastor Jim about the state of the parish. Pastor Jim also briefly described our options as we begin to look for a new rector or priest in charge. The meeting was followed by a festive potluck lunch.

In the coming weeks, pick up devotional materials for Lent! A devotional provided by Episcopal Relief and Development offers a meditation and prayer for each day during Lent. To accompany our traditional practice of “going without” during Lent, these devotions help focus prayers on the needs of those in the world who go without every day.
Especially for families with children at home, we are also offering a packet of goodies that are designed for families to use together to learn more about the traditional practices of prayer, alms-giving, and fasting during Lent, and to add a scriptural dimension to a brief family time each week (similar to Advent devotions for families). This packet’s prayer cards, prayer cubes, special family activity, and alms box add meaning and purpose to the observance of the season of Lent.
