Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Our parish’s traditional Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper returns February 12! This year, Pastor Jim has promised a little extra fun with the introduction of pancake races. Throw on your Mardi Gras beads and come on down to eat any time between 5 and 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $8 for guests ages 13-64, $6 for seniors and guests ages 5-12, and none for children age 4 and younger. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the women in need who are served by the ministry of Gravity Church that emerged to replace the now-closed Meadows Depot and the Lodi Food Bank.

Look for a sign-up sheet in the church if you’d like to commit to providing any supplies for the dinner. Talk to Paula Saubolle or Kathy Girard if you’d like to volunteer your time.

FAMILIES: Parish youth are also invited to participate in providing the dinner. Come any time to help, or let Penny know if you have a specific time in mind.

  • First through Third Graders are invited to help set and clear tables.
  • Fourth Graders and older are invited to help take beverages and plates to tables, plus the above.
  • Junior Highers and older are invited to help take orders, plus the above.

“Christianity for the Rest of Us” is the title of the study book we’ll be using on Wednesday evenings in Lent. It’s by Diana Butler Bass, and is readily available through on-line booksellers. We’ll start using this book on February 27th, so you have a few weeks go acquire a copy. If you would like to request Pastor Jim to acquire a copy for you through the Rector’s Discretionary Fund, just let him know ahead of time.

Soul Kitchen Dinner

Our next Soul Kitchen community dinner will be February 22, 2013.  It has come to the attention of the Soul Kitchen Committee that there is a misunderstanding about our mission.  Last Spring when we were in the planning stage, we considered many paths we could follow. However, the more we discussed our vision we always returned to what we are currently doing.  The Soul Kitchen Dinner shares a simple, nutritious meal and fellowship with anyone who comes through our door. To date, we have not had the opportunity to feed any homeless people, but hopefully, one day we will.  It is our hope that the parish will join us the last Friday of each month for food, fellowship and fun!
