Adult Forum Bible Study

Starting today, the Adult Forum will be a Bible study focusing on the New Testament book of Colossians. This wonderful book is a letter from St. Paul to encourage Christians and to spur them on to steadfast faith and growth in Jesus. Jeannie Canwell will lead the study following the 9:00 service, for four Sundays. Please bring your Bibles and come explore the Word of God together.

Community Garden

Currently, the garden is about 25% planted with summer vegetables.  Since March, we have had 9 Saturday workdays, with over 50 people participating on those days.  That’s 100 man hours!  The garden workdays are on Saturdays from 9-11, and it is a time when someone from the parish is present to open the shed and provide tools to use such as turning forks, hoes, and rake. We need adult members of the parish who are willing to supervise on Saturdays when volunteers show up looking for direction.  I’m looking for 5-6 people who can commit to 2 hours on a Saturday once every other month.  Vive la Garden!

Healing Prayers after Service Today

The Rev. Gini Hart, a deacon from the Diocese of Nevada, has worked for many years in healing ministry, and is a member of the Order of St. Luke. She will be leading healing prayers following the 10:30 service. If you want to pray for someone else’s healing, or for your own intentions, just come to the front row of the church after the organ postlude.

Summer Changes

Revised Summer Church Service Hours

Starting today, church service will be held at 9:00 a.m. only.  This will remain in effect through September 1.  Starting September 8, we will go back to worshiping at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Revised Liturgical Summer Schedule

Come and pick up your REVISED LITURGICAL SCHEDULE in the office.  Assignments have changed!  Please compare the Revised Liturgical Schedule to your calendars at home.

Take a Look at the Bulletin

We are considering a new look for our bulletin.  For one month we will evaluate this new set up.  On the ministry table you will find a display of the ministries available here at St. John’s.  Also available on this table will be copies of the Prayer List.

Join P.R.I.D.E.

Join the team of P.R.I.D.E., Personal Responsibility In Delivering Excellence.  This newly formed ministry will take pride in keeping our church and its grounds maintained and can only be done with your help and love of St. John’s!  We’d like to get together on Saturday, June 22 at 9:30 a.m. at the church and discuss the number of items that need to be accomplished at church.  Please seriously consider joining and/or contributing to PRIDE and help maintain our glorious church.  We encourage your comments (do you see a task that needs to be completed at church?) join us on the 22nd to get it on the list or let Kevin Canwell or Ann Marie Addler know.

Ladies Challenge the Men

The Ladies of St. John’s (dinner/Bunco night) collected $100 towards the purchase of our Episcopal welcome sign (see below for a blank one)!  The ladies would like to challenge the men (men’s bbq) to match their donation.  Are you up for the challenge?

The new sign will replace the current, dilapidated one on the corner of S. Lower Sacramento and Kettleman.

Help Is Needed with Fair Trade Coffee Sales

Please see Sharon to volunteer to help over this summer.  The sale of fair trade coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate continues after the 9:00 a.m. service starting June 16. Your purchase blesses our community by bringing us closer to our goal of providing playground equipment for our children here, and blesses others by conserving the earth and providing a fair wage to farmers.

Children’s Sunday School Takes a Summer Break

Children are invited to pick up an activity bag as they come into church and to sit with their families during services. We will resume our regular Sunday school classes on September 8 with a new curriculum the new program year. Teachers, we hope that you will enjoy this “time off” and return refreshed in the fall for another rewarding year of teaching.

Preschool and the nursery will continue to provide lessons and care for our younger children.

Children’s Chapel will continue to meet on the first Sunday of every month.

Youth Group will also take a break from weekly meetings during the summer, but keep your eyes peeled for special events in the coming months!

Soul Kitchen Dinner

Our next Soul Kitchen community dinner will be June 28, 2013. The Soul Kitchen Dinner shares a simple, nutritious meal and fellowship with anyone who comes through our door. It is our hope that the parish will join us the last Friday of each month for food and fellowship.
