St. John’s is home to a number of wonderful ministries, including:
The Arts at St. John’s
The Arts at St. John’s was founded in 1999 with the purposes of enhancing the growth of the parish and extending the love of Christ by presenting and participating in community artistic activities. Each year we produce a concert series running from September through April, and featuring three to six performers. Our concerts are for the general public and we offer a diverse schedule of concerts which appeal to all types of audiences. Recent guests include Brooks Williams, Karin and Joy Gunderson, Knut Erik Jensen, and Anonymous 4.
St. John’s Choir
St. John’s Parish Choir supports the liturgical life of the parish, playing a vital role through singing and leading, mostly at the 10:45 a.m. liturgy. The Parish Choir also sings at other festivals of the year, including Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and other special services. The choir is open to members from high school through adult and rehearses on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. Your participation is welcome! For information, please contact Randy Knutson at the church, (209) 369-3381, or at email@example.com.
St. John’s Choristers
St. John’s Choristers provide children with an opportunity to sing for services on a regular basis, learn some basic musical skills, and to have a lot of fun! The choristers rehearse every Wednesday at 4:30 – 5:30 pm, under the skilled guidance of Music Director Randy Knutson. Come and join the fun.
St. John’s Community Garden
Our Community Garden is a volunteer group of congregation members and neighborhood friends of the church who work on developing and maintaining the garden, planting seeds and vegetables, assisting with weeding and harvest. Our 60×60 space grows a variety of items and the harvest is distributed to the needy throughout Lodi. Help in our community garden. Call Aleathea Langone at 369-0701.
cONTEMPLATION AND cONVERSATION
The Contemplation and Conversation group will meet once a month during the summer. The July session will be facilitated by Elaine Breckenridge and will be offered, Thursday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m. The August session will be facilitated by Carol Foote and will be offered, Thursday, August 20 at 7:00 p.m.
The group meets in the Hospitality Room. A theme for prayer is offered with accompanying readings. The group sits in silence approximately 15-20 minutes. Individuals are then invited into a conversation about faith sharing. Visitors and new people are always welcome.
The Men’s BBQ Group meets every other month beginning in January generally on the first Sunday of the month at 5 P.M. We gather at the church for conversation, a glass of wine, and a hearty meal. There is a minimal donation to cover the costs. All men of the parish are welcome.
Yoga for Christians
Yoga for Christians’ classes meet weekly. Psalms, readings and prayers are interspersed with gentle stretching, mindful breathing and balancing exercises, deep relaxation and meditation. Many who attend find that they sleep better, have better balance and are more flexible after just a few sessions. Come, breathe in the breath of God and be refreshed.
