Arts at St. John's

The Arts at St. John's was founded in 1999 with the purposes of enhancing the growth of the parish and extending the love of Christ by presenting and/or participating in community artistic activities.

Each year we produce a concert series running from September through April, featuring three to six performers.  The acoustics in our building are among the best to be found anywhere in the Untied States.

Our concerts are for the general public and we offer a diverse schedule of concerts which appeal to all types of audiences.  The Arts at St. John's concert series relies on a dedicated band of volunteers to help with the box office, take tickets, hand out programs, escort patrons to seats, and serve as agents of hospitality.  Commitment may be for a selected number of concerts.

Caring Hearts

Caring Hearts is a group of people who minister to those in need at St. John's.  They prepare and deliver food, shop, clean, laundry, drive, visit, run errands, yard work, and more.

Men's BBQ

This group meets six times per year on the first Sunday of January, March, May, July, September, and November at 5:00 p.m. at the church for fellowship, good food and a glass of wine.  A donation of $5 is accepted to help with costs.  We generally have 15- 18 men in attendance.  Our primary function is fellowship, but they also have supported the ministries at St. John's financially and with man power.

Nursery/ One Room Sunday School

Children of all ages are welcomed each Sunday morning to the one room Sunday school class.  Lessons and activities are varied to meet the ages and interests of the children in attendance.  Older children are encouraged to assist the younger students as we all learn together from the lesson presented.  Lessons are based on the Sunday lectionary, using lessons outlined in "living the Good News," and / or lesson from "Sermons 4Kids".  More recently we have included lessons and materials from "Weaving God's Promises for Children, a Curriculum for Children in the Episcopal Church." This lesson is introduced with a bible story and prayer followed by a variety of hands on activities.

People of Faith Study Group

This group meets the first and third Mondays of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Hospitality Room.  We select a book or study for a season.  In all of our studies, we have utilized additional information found on the internet and shared by participants form various other sources.  We have studied "Uppity Women of the Bible", the "Twelve Apostles", "Celtic Spiritualty - A Beginner's Guide" are some examples of the studies.  It is set up as any one can drop in and study with us.

Blessing Backpack Ministry

The backpack ministry prepares backpacks for the homeless which contain hats, socks, flashlights, hygiene and various other items. We keep a few backpacks in the narthex for members to take and disburse among the homeless.

Soul Kitchen

The last Friday of each month, St. John's reaches out to our community and offers a free dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The Soul Kitchen began in June 2012 with between 10 to 15 people, today we serve between 40-45 people on a regular basis. The meals are simple and nutritious.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild of St. John's is a group of members dedicated to assisting the clergy by setting up for the Eucharist and the various other services that take place in our church and chapel.

Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors Ministires

Eucharistic Ministers serve the church on Sundays as Chalice Bearers, Bread Servers, reading the second lesson and the Prayers of the People.  Eucharistic Ministers also serve at funerals, weddings, and celebrations when needed.

Eucharistic Visitor

Eucharistic Visitors serve as a bridge between the Church Gathered and those unable to attend the Gathering.  We take the Holy Gifts of the Eucharist along with the holy gifts of your prayers, greetings, and news of the congregation.
